The American Dream may feel out of reach to a lot of us these days, but it’s still achievable, according to new research. A study from DuelBits reveals the best states to see it in action and to reach it yourself.
- It analyzes data from all 50 states, comparing them on seven factors traditionally related to the American Dream. These include the percentage of college degrees, the percentage of home ownership, average salary, number of foreign-born residents, rate of vehicle ownership, average debt and life expectancy.
- Based on all of that, it seems the Northeast is the best part of the country to be in to make the American Dream come true. Six of the top 10 states are in that region.
- New Jersey tops the list, thanks in part to its high rate for college education, as 43% of the state’s residents have a college degree.
- The Garden State’s life expectancy is 79, the fourth-highest in the U.S., and it gets high scores for diversity, with 25% of residents coming from other countries.
- On the flip side, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas are the states with the lowest chance of living the American Dream.
