A San Diego hospital worker has returned to her job at Sharp Memorial after receiving a kidney transplant from a coworker. Ruth Duroseau, a transplant assistant who helps patients get on kidney lists, had previously received a transplant in 2012, but that kidney later stopped working, leading to months of illness and recovery. Her coworker, Christine Brenner, had already been considering organ donation and was found to be a perfect match.
Duroseau says she was grateful when Brenner offered to donate and the transplant was a success. After more than six months away, Duroseau recently returned to work and was welcomed back by her team, who lined the hallway and cheered her arrival. She resumed her duties, including responding to thousands of emails from patients she now relates to on a personal level.
This month, during National Donate Life Month, both women shared messages of hope, noting the importance of organ donation as many people continue to wait for transplants. Brenner says that donating was the best thing she’s done, while Duroseau encourages others not to give up and to keep moving forward one day at a time.
