For more than a decade, Dan Cuthern and his dog Bentley have been living under an overpass in Jefferson County, Missouri, but now they’re getting a chance at a fresh start. After meeting him early this year, a group of five local women decided to help him get back on his feet. They first raised money to get him a hotel room in February, then continued fundraising and contributing their own money to secure a more permanent housing situation for him.
The women ultimately ended up purchasing an RV, giving Cuthern and Bentley their own place to live. They also helped him find employment at a local doggy daycare, where he can work while staying close to animals. He had shared that during difficult times he would go without food to make sure Bentley was fed, and his bond with his pup influenced the group’s decision to help.
When presented with the RV, Cuthern expressed deep gratitude, saying he loves it. He now has housing, a job, and ongoing support from the women, who he described as family. The women say they plan to remain a consistent presence in his life as he continues forward.
