A teenager in Millbury, Ohio, is being recognized as a hero after saving both his grandfather and a neighbor in separate emergencies just weeks apart. A couple of weeks ago, 18-year-old Gavin Saltsman was in the car with his mom, taking his grandfather, Roger, to the hospital when Roger went into cardiac arrest. Gavin quickly performed CPR for about five minutes until Roger’s heart started beating again. Doctors later determined he’d suffered a heart attack and a stroke.
Just two weeks later, Gavin heard his neighbor calling for help after she’d fallen and broken her leg outside on a freezing night. He rushed to her aid, making sure she wasn’t left alone in the dangerous cold. The teen said it felt good to help, knowing she might not have survived the night if she hadn’t come to her rescue.
Gavin’s mother, Shanelle Childress, expressed deep pride and gratitude, calling him her "miracle baby" and saying there are no words to describe how blessed she feels. She says watching him save his grandfather, who is also her best friend, was an unforgettable moment. In just two weeks, Gavin’s quick thinking and CPR training have made a life-saving difference in his community.
