How Americans Rate 2024 Overall

How would you rate your year? As we head into the last week of 2024, a new survey asks that question to Americans across the country. And while it may not have been the best year, it definitely wasn’t the worst, according to the results.

The poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults reveals that the average American rates 2024 as a 6.1 out of 10.

  • The most common score was a five, but it was much better for some folks, as 30% rate this year as an eight or higher.
  • Looking back at the year, 67% feel they had some sort of personal growth in 2024.
  • Only 18% say they had no growth at all, and 15% aren’t sure if they did or not.
  • Among those who did do some growing in 2024, 52% say they had improvements in their personal life, while 38% say their mental and emotional life improved.
  • Another 29% experienced improvements in their physical health and fitness, while 25% made progress in their financial life in the last year.

The survey also highlights the top things that made 2024 most memorable for respondents:

  1. Reconnected with an old friend or family member - 17%
  2. Creative and personal Growth - 12%
  3. Got a new pet - 12%
  4. Learned a new skill or hobby - 12%
  5. Volunteered or contributed to a cause - 11%
  6. Visited a new state or city - 10%
  7. Overcame a major health challenge - 9%
  8. Made a new best friend - 9%
  9. Started a new job - 9%
  10. Experienced a once-in-a-lifetime event (e.g., eclipse, concert) - 9%
