HOW MANY BREAKS WE TAKE IN A DAY

How many breaks do you typically take during a work day? New research looking into Americans’ wellness habits reveals that finding time for a break can be challenging. According to a poll of 2-thousand adults, one in eight don’t take a single break all day.

The survey also finds:

  • The average respondent takes four breaks a day, which is one less than the number they think they need (five).
  • The “perfect” break lasts for about 17 minutes and the most popular way people spend it is listening to music (41%) or having a snack or meal with no distractions (36%).
  • People also like to get some fresh air during their break by going for a walk (35%) or sitting outside (34%), while others use their break to get hydrated (33%) or enjoy a warm beverage (22%).
  • People have an average of four busy days a week, but 12% think every day is a “busy day.”
  • Just over a third (36%) wish they could take more breaks and 55% of those say they just feel too overwhelmed to stop working for a few minutes.
  • Even though many people aren’t taking enough breaks, 87% agree they’re important for practicing wellness.
  • Still, half of those polled (51%) rate their wellness habits as above average.
  • Nearly two-thirds (62%) of respondents who have healthy habits practice them daily, while a third admit they’re not always a priority.
  • Americans define “wellness” in a variety of ways, including “feeling healthy, happy and full of energy,” “taking care of yourself to ensure your mind stays acute,” and “physical and mental stability.”
