Some teenagers count down the days until they turn 16 and can get their driver’s license, but their parents may not be as excited for them to reach this rite of passage. Not only does it cost them a lot to have a teen driver behind the wheel, the distractions inside the car and dangers out on the road make it scary for moms and dads. But it turns out, some states are better for teen drivers and a new report tells us which ones they are.
- WalletHub’s annual list of the Best and Worst States for Teen Drivers has just come out.
- They compared all 50 states across 23 key metrics in the main categories of Safety, Driving Laws and Economic Environment.
- The states were rated on everything from premium increase after adding teen driver to parent’s car insurance to driving schools per capita to share of teen texting/emailing while driving.
- Oregon comes in first, making it the Best State for Teen Drivers. It’s number one for driving laws, but 36th for economic environment.
- New York, which is second overall, tops the list for safety, while Michigan, 24th overall, is number one for economic environment.
- At the other end of the list, Montana is 50th, making it the worst state for teen drivers. It’s 50th for both safety and driving laws.
