Do you have a favorite show or movie you watch when you need to boost your mood? A lot of us do, according to new research. A survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults with streaming subscriptions finds that:
67% believe the best cure for a bad day is watching a comfort show or movie.
The poll also reveals:
- Half of respondents (51%) say what they watch has the power to change their mood for the rest of the day.
- For 49%, they have to be âin the right moodâ to watch movies or shows that deal with heavy or stressful topics.
- Eight in 10 (81%) say their mood influences what they watch and they can feel the emotional impact of what they watch for up to two hours afterward.
- While two-thirds like to binge-watch their favorite shows, 49% admit they get into a post-watch funk after watching an entire series, because they donât know what to watch next.
- Just over half (53%) of those surveyed love their shows so much, they drag out watching episodes so they can enjoy the show longer.
- To turn a day from bad to good, people like to watch âForrest Gump,â âThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,â and âGilmore Girls.â
- Shows and movies that can turn a day from good to bad include â13 Reasons Why,â âBlack Mirrorâ and âTitanic.â
- Respondents say the happiest shows are âModern Familyâ and âFriends,â while the most stressful shows include âBreaking Badâ and âOzark.â
- The most emotional shows include âThis Is Usâ and âGreyâs Anatomy,â with 40% of people feeling emotional after watching the long-running medical drama.
- According to the survey, the best genres to watch before bed are comedy (52%), action (34%) and drama (33%), while the worst are horror (52%), suspense (32%) and true crime (29%).
