What do U.S. employees appreciate most at their jobs? A new Pew Research Center report called âHow Americans view their jobsâ offers some insight. After polling 59-hundred people, they found workers value paid time off more than having employer-funded health insurance.
The survey reveals:
- 62% of respondents feel itâs âextremelyâ important to have paid time off for vacations or sick time, compared to 51% who say employer-funded health insurance is âextremelyâ important.
- Another 27% of those polled say paid time off is âveryâ important, and 28% say employer-funded health insurance is âveryâ important.
- Despite feeling itâs extremely important to have, almost half of workers who get paid time off donât actually use it all.
- The top reasons for not using their allocation of paid time off include not wanting to bother coworkers with extra tasks or potentially fall behind.
- Only about half of the workers surveyed say theyâre extremely or very satisfied with their job, while only a third (34%) are happy with how much they get paid.
- But two-thirds say theyâre extremely or very satisfied with their relationship with their colleagues and 65% say they have at least one close friend at work.
- Nearly 80% feel theyâre treated with respect at work, with 65% saying their contributions are valued a great deal or a fair amount.
- Employees over age 65 are most likely to be extremely or very satisfied with their job (67%), while those under 30 are the least likely (44%).
