A supermarket worker in Massachusetts is being recognized for a good deed he did for a customer.Briar Poirierworks the cash register at a Market Basket store in Oxford and he also has autism, as well as a lot of compassion, which was on display when an eldery veteran came through his checkout line recently.
The vet had a $25 grocery store gift card, but it wasn’t enough to cover his total. And without hesitation, Briar grabbed his wallet and paid the remaining balance, telling the man, “I’ve got this.” To him, it was simply the right thing to do. “This man fought for our country, fought for our freedoms, our rights,” Briar says. “It’s the least I could do for him.”
Renee Falcioni is a regular at that store and witnessed the act of kindness. She says she saw the veteran’s “eyes light up” at the gesture and he shook Briar’s hand, thanked him and had a “big smile from ear to ear.” She posted about it on a localFacebookgroup, thanking Briar for being amazing and thanking his parents for “raising such an amazing, kind hearted, and caring young man.”
