MICKEY'S FIGHT!!

I want to tell you about my friends Rachel & Mark Macholl, whom I've known for a very long time. When I read on social media a few years ago that their son Mickey was battling cancer (Neuroblastoma), I was heartbroken and stunned. Mickey battled hard and I followed his journey on Facebook. Unfortunately however, Mickey lost his battle in 2016.

Rachel & Mark have written a book about their journey with their son during his treatments. They now live in North Carolina, but are coming back up to Connecticut next weekend for a book signing in their hometown of West Haven, Friday night September 13th at Duffy's Tavern from 6pm-9pm.

I hope you'll swing by, say hello to Mark and Rachel and talk to them about their son Mickey.

Mickey’s Fight Synopsis:

I wasn’t dreaming; I was visiting. I had a unicorn race with Jesus, Mary, and Jesus’ dad.

Mick’s father, Mark, was stunned to hear the words from his son, who was battling cancer. He posted the story on Facebook—allowing people to intimately step inside their lives.

After his son’s diagnosis, Mark had doubts and was even angry, but God stood close to him and led his family across the country seeking treatments banned in some places. Jesus gave him and his wife, Rachel, the strength to do whatever it took to save their boy.

The Macholls’ need to help their son also ignited a desire to promote change and educate the world about the ineffectiveness of conventional medicine versus integrative care. They seek to spark a movement that will give parents a choice and provide hope after a grim diagnosis.

The stakes for Mark and Rachel couldn’t be higher: their young son’s life. With candor, they share the ups and downs they went through during a struggle that ultimately brought them closer to God—and each other.

Mark and Rachel Macholl are both CT born and raised. Here Mark served as a high school girls’ basketball coach for his Alma Mater, West Haven High School, and became a US Air Force Veteran. As a Sacred Heart Academy alumni, Rachel worked for the West Haven Parks and Recreation Department for over a decade and was an elementary school teacher for West Haven Public Schools. The two have been together since they were 17 years old and moved to NC shortly after getting married. In the quaint town of Wake Forest, the two built a house and began their family, making that house a home. They founded a dance studio, became involved in their neighborhood and community, and made life-long friendships. Today, Mark is a field service engineer and Rachel is a kindergarten teacher at their boys' school. The family loves going to the drive-in movies, hosting neighborhood get-togethers, trips to the beach, and having pizza, movie, and game nights. They are so grateful to be returning to their home town and state that supported them through their son’s battle with cancer and sharing their story at their book signing.
