Memorial Day 2020 will be much different than in years past but the meaning is still the same. Although you might not be able to have the large gatherings that you've had in the past to "unofficially" kick off your Summer, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take a minute or two to remember the Americans that fought for your freedom. Ah yes, that is actually the reason for the holiday weekend. That is the reason that you might have Monday off. Sometimes the meaning of this holiday seems to get lost in the commercialization, like the meaning of many holidays have.
Memorial Day is celebrated to honor the men and women that have defended this Country and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. Whether you agree with the reasons that they were fighting or not, those men and women had a job to do and they went and did it. Just like your or I, when we're given an assignment to do that we might not agree with, it is still our job to get that assignment done. I totally understand that it's fun to hang out with friends and family and enjoy the weekend cooking out or doing whatever it is that you do. I'm not saying that you shouldn't do any of that (this year it'll be done differently due to "restrictions"). What I'm asking is that you just take a minute to reflect on what the actual meaning of the holiday is. Honor those soldiers that died protecting us. How you choose to honor them is totally up to you. Maybe set am extra place at your table for those fallen soldiers. Say a quick prayer (if you're the praying type). Or simply say "thank you" to them, to yourself or out loud. Or find your own way to honor them.
Clearly, this is just my opinion and you certainly don't have to do anything that I am suggesting but remember, while you sit at a computer and complain about our elected officials. You complain about gas prices. You complain about whatever it is that you're complaining about, publicly, if it weren't for those men and women that fought bravely for our Country, you wouldn't have the right to voice your opinion about any of those things. Just like I wouldn't have the right to write everything I just did and hit the publish button.
I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend! THANK YOU to all the men and women that have fought and died fighting for me and my family.
