Today I got to do something very cool. I was invited to be a judge for the Iowa State Fair’s Best New Food contest! This year they revealed over 60 new foods (!!!) and our job was to help narrow it down to 3 top picks for fairgoers to vote on.
We got to taste-test 11 of the craziest, cheesiest, most deep-fried creations you can imagine. And yes, I ate every single one. For research. Obviously.
Here’s what we tried:

- Chicken Pickle Ranch Rocket on a Stick from JR's SouthPork Ranch
- Hawaiian Hog from Iowa Pork Producers
- HoQ Lamb Wrap from HoQ
- Maple Bacon Bourbon Grilled Cheese from What's Your Cheez
- Nashville Hot Chicken Mac n' Cheese Pizza Slice from Wiseguys Woodfired Pizza
- Potato Half & Half Korean Corn Dog from GoldenKDog
- Sweet Granny's Apple Delight Sundae from Applishus
- The Butter Cow Tornado from Dairy Zone
- The Scotcheroo Shake from Over The Top
- Three Little Pigs from Whatcha Smokin? BBQ
Yeah. It was as intense (and delicious) as it sounds.
