A new documentary into the death of actor Matthew Perry is diving deeper into his tragic demise.

The entertainment world was shocked October 28, 2023, when it was reported that Perry, who gained popularity as the lovably sarcastic Chandler Bing on the beloved sitcom Friends, had unexpectedly passed away at the age of 54 after drowning at his Los Angeles home. His cause of death was later identified as a result of the acute effects of ketamine; Perry had been open in the past about his struggles with addiction, which at one point landed him in a coma for two weeks.

Details about Perry's final days and the ongoing investigation into his death, which has led to several arrests, will be explored in the new Peacock documentary Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, airing later this month. The special not only includes the original 911 dispatch call made to first responders but also more information from experts and friends, per People.

Following his death, federal authorities began investigating "key people in Hollywood" and doctors who potentially wrote prescriptions "deemed outside the score of medical necessity." In August 2024, multiple people were arrested in connection to Perry's death, including his assistant and a woman known as the "Ketamine Queen."

While some in the documentary, like his TV mom Morgan Fairchild, remembered Perry as someone who "really touched people's lives," others expressed grief over how his life was "overtaken by addictions" thanks to a Hollywood that is "full of enablers."

"They really preyed on somebody vulnerable," one person said. "He was doing so well. Everyone thought he was clean and sober. That's when we knew that there's way more to this story."

Another insider noted that because of the scope of the investigation, many people are forgetting the most important part. As the trailer concludes, they emphasized, "This story has become so big that we're really forgetting this story is about one man and that he will be missed."
