Election star Jessica Campbell has passed away. According to TMZ, the former actress died in Portland on December 29. She was just 38-years-old.
Campbell, who left acting and went on to become a naturopathic physician, was found unresponsive in the bathroom by her aunt. Her cousin, Sarah Wessling, told TMZ that Campbell had been complaining of congestion and believed she was coming down with a cold shortly before her death. Campbell's family is still waiting for the autopsy results.
Though she was no longer acting at the time of her passing, Campbell starred in a number of memorable roles. She starred alongside Reese Witherspoon, Matthew Broderick and Chris Klein in the cult classic film Election. Campbell received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance for her work in the film. Following her breakout performance in Election, Campbell went on to guest-star on the popular Freaks and Geeks and star in The Safety of Objects and Junk.
A GoFundMe has been set up in Campbell's honor in order to help her family with funeral expenses, as well as to provide financial aid for her 10-year-old son Oliver. Her family is currently planning a memorial to honor Campbell's life.
