Charlie Puth Throws Awkward Dinner Date In 'Girlfriend' Music Video

Charlie Puth pulls out all the stops for his latest music video.

The crooner recently unveiled the visual for his new song “Girlfriend,” and it’s as adorable as it is hilariously awkward to watch. In the three-minute clip, Puth tries his hand at preparing a homemade meal at his place before his sweetheart arrives for their dinner date, but things go terribly awry when he burns everything.

Thinking quick on his feet, Puth decides to order delivery and passes the time by prancing around his home before his date (running late) finds him shaking his butt on the dinner table. (Cinematic gold, we tell you.)

“I’ve never released a music video that wholeheartedly showed my personality," the 28-year-old star shared in a press statement. "The video for ‘Girlfriend’ is the first time I’ve truly been myself in every aspect. I can’t cook and I’m an absolute nerd. It’s also meant to visually represent what I want people to do when they hear my music and that’s to have fun in their very own way."

“Girlfriend” is the first record to appear on Puth’s forthcoming third studio album, which has yet been announced with a name. Much like its title suggests, the track carries the same puppy love sort of vibes, as Puth serenades a girl about wanting to be his lady love.

“Baby, would you ever want to be my girlfriend?/ I don't wanna play no games/ This is more than just a phase/ Baby, would you ever want to be my girlfriend?/ If you want it, let me know/ We could make this official,” he sings on the chorus over a mid-tempo pop groove.
