Selena Gomez is a woman of many faces in her new music video for "Bad Liar," which dropped on Wednesday afternoon (June 14), and it's a quicky tribute to a 1970s school love triangle.
In the clip, which was written and directed by Jesse Peretz (co-executive producer of Girls, Nurse Jackie and Divorce), the pop star plays several – and we mean several – characters. We start off the visual with young Selena (the school girl), who rides her bike to class, only to be mistreated by her peers in the hallway and witness a budding romance between her female gym teacher and school principal (also played by Gomez).
Later on, young Selena heads home to find an awkward dinner happening between her mom and principal, but the real twist arrives at the end of the clip when viewers learn that she actually has a crush on her gym teacher. Fans will also be excited to see that Gomez teased a project called "Fetish" at the end of the clip, with the tag line: "coming soon" wrapping up the visual.
Even though it marks the second video for the cut, "Bad Liar" could use the extra push on the charts. The song, which serves as the lead single off Gomez's as-yet-untitled next LP, hasn't made the biggest splash on the scene. Thankfully, a recent discount on iTunes has helped the song with a slow climb up the chart.
During her recent chat with iHeartRadio, Gomez said that she was in the process of putting together all the various components of her recording sessions from the last year. "I spent a year in the studio, and now I'm putting all of these pieces together, and it's coming a lot faster than people think," she explained. "But that's what makes it great, because there's a little mystery to it, and it sounds so separate from everything else I've done. I mean, from the Kygo record, to 'Bad Liar' and the next thing that's after 'Bad Liar' is so separate from that, it's just me trying to figure out where it's gonna go. And I don't really have a set plan, but a lot of new music is coming for sure."
