We’re almost at the end of 2021 and while we were finally able to start dining out at some restaurants again, plenty of people were still ordering in. Grubhub’s annual “Year in Food” report is out to tell us exactly what everyone was eating this year. The online food ordering and delivery platform analyzed orders from its more than 32-million customers to find out what rose in popularity throughout the year.
Topping the list for 2021? The plant-based Impossible cheeseburger, which was the overall top order for the year, up by 442% over last year.

- Shredded pork taco - 310% more popular than last year
- Apple pecan chicken salad - 287% more popular than last year
- Detroit-style pizza - 263% more popular than last year
- Margarita - 240% more popular than last year
- Pub mac and cheese - 174% more popular than last year
- Pork dumplings - 173% more popular than last year
- Chicken burrito - 166% more popular than last year
- Poke nachos - 158% more popular than last year
- Lettuce wrap - 155% more popular than last year
The Taste of 2021 report also reveals:
- The top breakfast order is a Sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich
- A strawberry shortcake sundae is the top dessert, up 378% from 2020
- Chips and pico de gallo is the most popular side order, up 205% from last year
- The most popular cocktail is a margarita, 240% more popular than in 2020
- In the non-boozy beverage category, the pumpkin spice latte takes the top spot, up 363%
- The largest single item order was for 200 bacon cheeseburgers
- Cheddar scallion biscuits are the most popular vegetarian order, up 362% from last year
- And the most popular vegan order is vegan hot cocoa, an increase of 320% from 2020
