Tips and Tricks to Help You Find Your "New Normal"

I am someone who loves to be on the go! When I'm home too long, or don't have something to do, I get stir crazy! Experts are saying the best way to cope with finding your "new normal" is to have a routine as similar to your old one as possible, or just make a new routine in general to get into the flow of things!

Here are some cool tips and tricks to help you find your new routine, and some ideas to keep you busy when you have some down time!

Make A New Morning Routine!

Since working from home has become an option, I've been throwing my hair up in a bun and wearing sweatpants all day! But today I actually blow dried my hair, threw on my necklace I usually wear everyday and put on a comfy outfit. Just doing something that made me feel like I was reverting back to my "old normal" definitely helped!

Watch a Movie / Have Family Game Night!

If you're home with some friends or family, this is a great time to start a new Netflix series or have a family game night! Break out the old board games, a good movie or a deck of cards and have a blast!

Here's a list of my top 5 shows/movies on Netflix:

  • Tudors
  • Narcos
  • Lucifer
  • The Crown
  • Any of the Gabriel Iglesias comedy specials

Try a New Workout Routine

Since gyms are closed for the time being, this is a great time to check out all of the amazing (and free) workout videos on YouTube! Before you knock it, trust me, there's some really great ones out there! They have everything from kickboxing, to floor pilates to yoga! So if you ever wanted to make it to that sunrise yoga class before work, now's your chance! Researchers at Yale and Oxford have even found research to prove working out can actually improve your mood and make you feel happier!

Here's a really awesome 30-minute no-equipment barre workout I use when I'm feeling the need to move!

Have a Netflix Party!

Hold on, it' s not an actual party, but a virtual one ;) If you use google chrome as your internet browser, theres an extension you can download called Netflix Party! It allows you and your friends to watch anything on Netflix together! It's super useful when your friends live far away like mine do! It's a great way to stay connected and stay healthy! Click HERE for more info and to download the extension!

Take Up A New Hobby or Project!

Keeping your mind busy is the best way to combat being stuck at home. Maybe you have a bunch of photos lying around you'd been meaning to put in a scrapbook, or you've always wanted to learn how to bake a cheesecake or improve your puzzle solving skills - now you can! For me, I've always been really bad at baking - like messing up brownies out of a box, bad - so while I'm home with my mom, she's been teaching me tips and tricks to improve, and it's been nice bonding time too!

Spring Clean

If you're like me and you're always on the go, this is the perfect opportunity to get some much-needed spring cleaning done! Clean out your closet, garage or that "junk drawer" we all have! It's the perfect time to get all those "little things" that you never have time for, done!

Go for a Walk/ Work from Home Outside

Social distancing doesn't mean you have to barricade yourself in your house. As daunting as the current coronavirus situation is, its ok to go outside and take a long walk - as long as you're feeling up to it! You'll be amazed how much better you feel just getting some work done sitting in your backyard or taking a quick 15 minute walk to get some fresh air. The weather has been beautiful and with spring right around the corner, we should be enjoying it!

But most importantly...WASH YOUR HANDS AND BE NICE TO PEOPLE :)
